Alice Byrum

October 24, 1943 — December 28, 2016

Alice Mae Dewitt Byrum passed away December 28,2016, after a very long battle with heart disease. Although her heart failed her in one way, it never failed to allow her to love her family. Alice was born on October 24, 1943 to Richard and Minnie Dewitt, In Porterville, California. Growing up in Popular, California as the youngest of 3 children she was a spunky live wire, who often enjoyed picking and fighting with her brother. In a time where many kids didn't have anything, they grew up extremely lucky through their parents? hard work. They in turn taught her hard work, and good work ethic which she used all her life. Alice worked at the Porterville State Hospital caring for the mentally and physically handicap for 20 plus year, all while raising her 4 children with her loving husband Donald. Alice loved her family, she was the person you would want in your corner, and she always was in your corner. she was a crafting genius, on cold winter days you could find her making beautiful things that she gifted to her loved ones. On sunny days, you would find her soaking up the sun tending to her flower beds or strawberry patches. Morro Bay held a special place in her heart and even after moving away she still took every chance she had to go as it reminded her of her late parents. Stray animals or animals in need, needed no more, she would take in any animal in need, even birds that fell from trees. Alice was a good, strong woman, reliable, dependable, the best friend anyone could have had. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing her knew just how funny, silly, loving and giving she truly was. Our family is devastated by the loss of our beloved matriarch. In her passing she leaves behind her loving husband of 50 years, a brother and sister, 4 children, 4 fur babies, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and many more people who were privileged to of known her love and kindness.
