Barbara Barnum

Barbara (Babs) Jean Barnum, age 69, passed away October 16, 2010 at Central Wyoming Hospice after a courageous battle with leukemia. Babs was born May 31, 1941 in Ainsworth, Nebraska to Palmer and Marjorie Furse. Her family moved to Casper shortly after her birth. She graduated from NCHS in 1960 and in 2003 graduated from Casper College with an Associate's in Education. She married Gordon Barnum in November of 1957 and had two children: Deborah Salvador and Martin Barnum. Babs worked as a clerk at Albertsons for 23 years and for the Natrona County School District for 10 years. She was a Hospice Volunteer and Girl Scout leader for many years. She belonged to the Rebecca Lodge #37, served as an Oblate Benedictine, and taught vacation bible school and missions to the children at Mt. View Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her husband and family at their mountain cabin. She loved her grandchildren and was always available to spend time with them. She also was a surrogate- grandmother to many children that live in Casper. Her mission in life was to tell others about the Lord. She traveled all over the world, serving as a missionary to places such as; Israel, Japan, Norway, Russia, China, Germany, India, the Czech Republic, Africa, and Turkey. She had read through the bible over 30 times and journaled everyday in her God Calling. She will be remembered as a born again Christian and good friend to everyone. She was loved by all that met her and changed the lives of many people in Casper and around the world. She is survived by her husband, Gordon Barnum, son-in-law and daughter, Tony and Deborah Salvador, grandchildren, Brad and Megan Cannon, Steven Salvador, and Melanie Heath, her sister Flossie Reeb, brothers Tom Furse and Jim Furse, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. A viewing will be held Friday, October 22, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bustard's Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday, October 23, at 10:00 AM at Highland Park Community Church. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens. Everyone is invited for fellowship after the interment at the College Heights Baptist Church Community Center at 21st and Walnut. Babs was a supporter of an orphanage in India that was established by her dear friend Pastor Krupa Emmanuel. Memorials may be sent to Mountain View Baptist Church, designated to Pastor Krupa at P.O. Box 2023 Mills, Wyoming 82644. She was preceded in death by her son, Martin Barnum, mother Marjorie Hooton, father Palmer Furse, and her in-laws Ruth and NA Wolf.
