Barry Reed

June 6, 1956 — December 16, 2020

Barry E. Reed, 63, was born in Casper, WY on June 6, 1956 and passed peacefully at home on December 16, 2020.  He was beloved son, brother, uncle, friend and cowboy. He graduated from Natrona County High School in 1974 and moved on to graduating Casper College and the University of Wyoming with an Honored bachelor’s degree in social work. Although he never perused a career in this, he would talk with anyone and give the best advice big or small touching many lives of others.

Barry grew up in Casper and was involved in many clubs throughout the years. He was a boy scout, FFA member, Phi Kappa Phi, Golden Key of America Society, Church of the Holy Family, member of outstanding Young Men in America club, VSA arts and much more. He always loved helping others and was a regular for the Boys Town Funding Society.

Growing up in Wyoming he enjoyed being outside, hunting, fishing, piloting a small aircraft, and rodeos. He rode broncs and bulls up until his accident in 1984 which led him to be a quadriplegic the remainder of his life. After the accident life for him did not stop, he still pushed the limits and accomplished more than anyone thought. Most memorable times where flying remote-control airplanes, painting Wyoming scenery, and mastering the computer all by using a mouthpiece. He had a special bow made and went hunting in his chair accomplishing a couple nice deer. If there was something he couldn’t do, he would find a way to make it happen.

Over the years he had enjoyed sitting by the river at his home and watching his family grow. He loved the plants and flowers in the spring, watching the rafters go by in the summer, the fall with all changing colors and the deep orange and purple sunsets in the winter. He looked forward to watching Wyoming and Colorado baseball, basketball and football which were always on. Recently one of his dreams came true and he was met by the whole Denver Bronco cheer team.

One of the biggest smiles anyone could see would be on his face no matter what life brought to him. He has touched many people and left most speechless with his life accomplishments. Anyone who knew him knew he was a kind and loving soul that words cannot describe.

Barry was preceded in death by his father William (Bill) R. Reed Sr, both paternal and maternal grandparents, an aunt and three uncles.

He is survived by his mother and caregiver for the last 36 years Cleo (Jane) Reed, brothers, William (Bill) R. Reed Jr. and wife Alexis of Anthem, AZ, Kenneth (Rod) Reed of Casper, WY, nieces Mandy, Katie, Emily and 9 great-nieces and nephews who looked up to him and adored him unconditionally. He is also survived by two aunts and numerous cousins.

His last quote was “Thy will be done”. He is now walking with God and his father doing everything he loved watching down on us as an angel. Ride on cowboy we all love you!
