Berdella Dorothy Brettin

Berdie Brettin, age 94, of Casper, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026.

Berdie was born on May 18, 1931, in Hebron, North Dakota, to Alvin and Dora Imhoff. She attended school in Hebron and graduated from Hebron High School in 1949. It was at a 4-H picnic where she met the love of her life, Marvin Brettin. The two were united in marriage on November 26, 1953, in Hebron.

While living in Hebron, Berdie and Marvin welcomed five children, who were the center of Berdie’s life and her greatest joy. She found great joy in cooking for her family and many crafts, especially sewing. The family later relocated to Arlee, Montana, where they lived for many years. During this time, Berdie worked in the elementary school lunchroom and was an active member of Arlee Jocko Lutheran Church.

In 1980, after their children had graduated from high school, Marvin and Berdie moved to Lovell, Wyoming. On September 22, 1983, the love of her life, Marvin, passed away. For the next 38 years Lovell remained Berdie’s home. In Lovell, Berdie was a devoted member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and worked as a housekeeper at North Bighorn Hospital for 18 years.

In 2020, Berdie moved to Casper, Wyoming, where she resided at Life Care Center of Casper. While there, she attended Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and especially enjoyed volunteering to make sandwiches for those experiencing homelessness. Berdie’s faith was central to her life and remained a guiding force wherever she lived.

Berdie is survived by her children Sandy Erickson, Casper, WY, Scott Brettin, Hebron ND, Peggy Schurman(Al), Lovell, WY, Jeff Brettin(Barb), Sheridan, WY, and Laurie Wagner(Hal), Sheridan WY. She is also survived by grandkids Brian, Shawna, Angela, Brandon, Brittney, Cera, Brettin, Lexi, and Charlie, and great grandkids Nathaniel, Noah, Natalie, Annahaya, Eleanora, Elijah.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Dora Imhoff, her husband Marvin Brettin, her brothers Wilbert and Norman Imhoff, and her son in law Richard Erickson.

Funeral service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran, 51 Primrose St. Casper, WY on January 31st, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date in Beach, ND. Bustard Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements. Anyone who wishes to pay their condolences is welcome..
