Betty Jane Cook, 94 of Casper, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2024, at Hospice with family. Betty was born in Missoula, Mt. to Harry and Mable LaFrinire on June 10, 1929, and had one sibling brother Harry. She went to Missoula County High School and graduated in 1948. She started nursing training in her junior year at St. Patrick hospital. After graduation, she joined the U.S. Army in Oct. 1949. Betty served 3 years, 3 months active duty as a Nurse. She continued her medical training at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington DC. She continued her military career in the Army Reserves working as a clinical specialist. operating room specialist & chief ward master. She was awarded the Army Achievement Metal in 1984. She retired in October 31,1989 at the rank of Sgt First Class. She worked at Community Hospital in the nursery taking care of the newborn babies, she retired May 6, 1994, after 27 years.
Betty volunteered at the Shepherd of the Valley Senior Center in Casper and was awarded Wyoming Volunteer of the Year! She loved to sit in the sun in her beautiful yard with flowers, she loved playing with her many dogs over the years. She enjoyed dancing at the Senior Center and spending time with her many friends.
She is survived by her 5 daughters, Sheila Schlueter of N.C., Laura Monfore of Mt, Machelle Holloway & husband Bill of Wy, Loretta Johnson of Mt, Pam Pearson & husband Aaron of Ark, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sister-in-law (best friend) Jean Lafriniere of Mt, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held for Betty Jane Cook on Sat., March 23rd, from 1 - 3 pm at the Central Wyoming Senior Center, 1891 E. 4th St., Casper. Betty loved Volunteering at the Shepherd of the Valley and The Senior Center. She often came to her daughter Machelle's Line Dance classes to visit, have coffee, eat lunch, and dance! Many dancers and friends enjoyed her company over the years thru her volunteer work and friendship. Betty was a retired Army Nurse who worked for Community Hospital in Missoula, Mt for 27 years, as well as raised 5 girls alone. Please join us to Celebrate her life!
A service with military honors will be held in Missoula, Montana at a later time this summer.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Casper Humane society in her name.
