Catherine (Cathie) Siler Swan, 87, passed away comfortably in her sleep July 4, 2026, in Casper, WY at Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Mount Hope Lutheran Church. A Nightingale Ceremony, honoring her years as a nurse, will follow.
Cathie was born July 12, 1938, in Lawrence, KS, to Kenneth A. Siler and Margaret Benedict. She graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1956 and went on to Valparaiso University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree. It was at Valparaiso that she met George R. Swan. They were married on July 28, 1958, in Little Rock, AR.
Cathie and George lived in Michigan and Indiana before moving to Dubois, WY in 1967. They then relocated to Riverton, WY in 1973. While there she worked as an EMT for 19 years. She then went back to school to study nursing, a profession she worked in for 11 years until her retirement.
Survivors include her sons Brian (Cheryl) of Casper, WY, and Michael of Guthrie, OK; sister Margaret (Bill) of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law Jo Ann of Topeka, KS; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by George, her husband of 55 years, her son Kenneth, her parents Kenneth and Margaret, her brother Andy, her grandsons James and Zachary, and great-granddaughter Megan.
Cathie was a devout Christian woman who devoted much of her time to her church. She was an adrenaline junkie who loved to ride four-wheelers and snowmobiles. Cathie enjoyed attending workout classes, where she made lots of friends. In the last decades of her life, her passion was making foot pillows. She found joy in donating them to people just to bring a smile to their faces. Cathie never met a stranger and always tried her hardest to make people smile.
Anyone who knew her knows she never did anything halfway. It seems only fitting that she chose to make her exit during the fireworks — going out with a bang, just one last reminder of the spark she brought to this world.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran School Education Assistance Fund at 419 E Park Avenue, Riverton, WY 82501.
