Cathryn Joan Angus
Szymczak
September 24, 1943 – April 1, 2026
Our beloved mother, Cathryn Joan (Angus) Szymczak, (82) peacefully passed away April 1, 2026, surrounded by several family members in Casper, Wyoming.
Cathryn was born to William and June Angus in Seattle, WA on September 24, 1943. She attended Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle and college at Washington State University. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Michael Szymczak, on April 11, 1964, in Pullman Washington. They settled in Fort Collins, Colorado where she worked as a librarian in the Poudre R1 School District. After retiring she became an accomplished water-color artist in Fort Collins. They moved to Casper in 2003 where she was an active member of the Casper Artist Guild for several years. Her artwork was unique and beautiful, ranging from colorful landscapes, majestic and quirky animals and vibrant flowers. She loved to travel around the world, and never missed a grandchild’s athletic event, choir concert, birthday party or dance recital. She traveled to New York, Ireland and Italy to see her granddaughters sing in choirs. She and her husband, Michael, traveled to Africa twice with fellow artists then hosted an African Art Show with her paintings. She enjoyed beaches and mountains, family and friends, and was always willing to accept invites for adventures and vacations with those she loved. We’ll remember her contagious laughter and witty spirit with joy in our hearts.
She is survived by her sons: Timothy (Linda) Szymczak of Flippin, AR, Jeffrey (Stephanie) Szymczak of Pittman Center, TN; Peter (Brenda) Szymczak of Casper, WY. Grandchildren: Taylor, Mitch, Blake, Aly, Jessi, Cece, Wisdom, Gigi, Samantha, and Carley. Great Grandchildren: Odieon, Julius, Harlow, Theodore, Jude, Wynn and Cora. She is preceded in death by her husband, Michael, parents, William and June, and her siblings.
A Celebration of Life will be held this summer in Casper with a date and location to be announced. The family wishes to extend our gratitude to Mountain Plaza Assisted Living and Enhabit Home Health & Hospice for their incredible love, tender care and support for Cathy and her family.
