Ellen “Christine” Campbell was born on December 1, 1934, in Central City, Kentucky, to James Elton Tomes and Esther Carnithan Tomes. On December 16, 1954, she married the love of her life, James S. Campbell.
Christine, or “Chris” as many knew her, made her home in Casper, Wyoming, where she worked at the hospital for many years. After retiring and caring for her husband until his passing, she continued giving back to her community through her work at the Salvation Army, where she made many cherished friendships.
She loved watching Murder, She Wrote—especially when she could share an episode and some ice cream with her great-granddaughters. Mystery and romance novels were among her favorite reads, and she had a soft spot for Christmas, the sparkle of holiday lights, and the joy of a beautifully decorated tree.
“Cookie Grandma,” as her great-grandchildren lovingly called her, was known for her sweet tooth, her delicious cookies, and her open heart. Her home was a warm and welcoming place where laughter, sweets, and love were always in abundance. She also enjoyed attending church, making lasting friendships there, and spending time at craft fairs, especially if she could bid on something fun.
Throughout her life, Chris adored her pets—especially her final companion, a little black cat named Eve, who stayed faithfully by her side.
She is survived by her brother, Clifton Tomes of Indiana, and her beloved children: Marilyn (Bryan) of Arizona; James D. (June) Campbell of Casper, WY; Teresa Campbell of Casper, WY; Ron (Sarah) Campbell of Casper, WY; Darryl Campbell of Casper, WY; Sheila (Jeff) Williams of Utah; and Lisa (Scott) Anderson of Casper, WY. Chris also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James; her son Michael; her parents; and several siblings, nieces, and nephews—each one held a special place in her heart.
Per Christine’s wishes, there will be no formal services. She will be cremated and laid to rest with her beloved husband.
Rest in peace, Mom. We love you and you will be missed always.
