Dave Sowers, 88, of Casper, WY, passed away on June 27. He was born in North Platte, NE, on April 5, 1937.
Dave attended high school in Midwest, WY, where he met his wife, Mary Lou. Dave and Mary Lou were married February 2, 1955. Dave started his career with Continental Oil Company (Conoco) in 1957 in Linch, WY. He and his family were transferred to Hobbs, NM, in 1975, then returned to Casper in 1978 and retired in 1993.
After the death of his wife, Dave retired to his cabin on Union Pass/Dubois and lived there for 19 years. He was very involved with the snowmobile club and was recognized as the Wyoming State Snowmobile Association Snowmobiler of the Year in 2004-2005. Other favorite hobbies included fishing, hunting, and four-wheeling, and he enjoyed being outdoors much of the time. Dave was very well known in the Union Pass community. He could always be counted on in a time of need. He loved Wyoming and enjoyed reading about the history of the state and the Rocky Mountain West. In 2012, Dave returned to Casper to be closer to his family. He spent the last 13 years enjoying his home on the North Platte River.
Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou; daughter, Charlene Tetherow; half-brother and sister, Albert Sowers and Leila Blake; and mother, Harriet Sowers.
Survived by his sons, Mike Sowers (Susie) and Bruce Sowers (Theresa); grandchildren: Staci Clark, Jamie DeVeny (Ty), David Sowers (Christy), Amanda Tetherow, Brittney Moore (Beau), Randee Sewing (Craig), Katherine Kron (Garrett), and Evan Sowers; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and dear friend, Judy Foster.
Per Dave’s request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Casper Humane Society.
