Donald Earl Whalen, 92, of Casper, Wyoming died on June 24, 2024 at the Park Place Assisted Living facility.
Don was born in Elgin, Illinois to Frank and Mabel Whalen on November 4th, 1931. He attended Elgin High School and graduated June 9th, 1950. He married Wanda (Banty) Whalen on June 23rd, 1951. They had two children Don Whalen Jr and Cindy Guge.
Don served in the United States Army from February 1952 to January 1954 as a Private First Class where he served in Germany as a radio man.
Don worked as a Car Forman and General Car Forman for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St Paul and Pacific Railroad, later the Soo Line Railroad until his retirement in 1990 whereupon they moved to Wyoming and lived in Wright, Sheridan, Rock Springs and Casper, Wyoming. They moved to the Park Place Assisted Living facility in Casper, Wyoming in October of 2020.
Don and Wanda were members of Bar Nunn Baptist Church, Bar Nunn, Wyoming. Don found great fulfillment in serving through the church. He served as a bible study leader, soloist, and Lay preacher. He also served in these rolls in his later years at the Park Place Assisted Living facility.
Don is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Whalen, his daughter, Cindy Guge, his son-in-law Joe Guge and his Parents, Frank and Mabel Whalen. He is survived by his son Don Whalen Jr. He is also survived by their grandchildren, Jean Tomjack of Casper, Wyoming, Donny Whalen of Casper, Wyoming, Nick Guge of McRae-Helena, Georgia, David Whalen of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Jason Guge, of Billings, Montana, Abby Vine of Loveland, CO and Tyler Guge of McRae-Helena, Georgia. He is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at Bustard & Jacoby Funeral Home, July 12th at 1:30pm with a meal to be served at the home of Don & Carol Whalen following the service.
