Doris Lee Black (“B”) passed away on February 4, 2026.
Doris was born in Glenrock, Wyoming on June 29, 1936. There wasn’t a hospital in Converse County at that time so she was born in a “lying-in-house” staffed by a R.N. and the local doctor. Doris Lee’s parents were Almira “Peggy” (Dillin) Robbins, and Charles E. “Doc” Robbins. She had three older siblings, Kenneth C. Robbins, Frances Ann Brock, and Dorothy Sue Ranes. Doris loved all her nieces and nephews like they were her own children, and they loved their Auntie Dode.
The family lived on a ranch 27 miles south of Glenrock in a valley known as Boxelder. Doris attended Boxelder Rural School where her mother taught her six out of eight years of attendance. Doris joined 4H Club at the age of eight and remained in the club until she graduated 8th Grade. She began dance lessons at the age of 8 and continued until June of 1956. Doris went to Girl’s State her Junior Year and worked at Larabees Grocery as a clerk, part-time during her Jr. and Sr. year. She attended Glenrock Parkerton High School (Grades 9-12) in Glenrock, WY, from Fall 1950 - May 1954, and graduated at Number two in the class rank, earning a scholarship to the University of Wyoming.
Doris attended Casper College as a Liberal Arts major and participated in Drama, Choir, and Student Government. She worked as an office assistant in the Dean’s Office. Doris was part of the student group who started the Casper College Rodeo Club and was the Rodeo secretary under guardian of the CC Rodeo Coach, Dale Stiles. Doris worked for room and board with a local Dr.’s family. Her parents had to pay her 1st and 2nd Quarter fees only and she maintained good grades that let her have free tuition. She graduated in 1956 from Casper College.
Doris worked for the Natrona County School District as a payroll clerk from 1960-1962. After leaving the Natrona County School District she began work as an administrative assistant within the Principals Office at Kelly Walsh High School in 1963 and became the Sponsor for Kelly Walsh Dancers at that time. Doris retired from Kelly Walsh High School in 1996, leaving behind a legacy of young dancers who participated with the Kelly Walsh Dancers. Over her years as the Sponsor for the group, she inspired hundreds of students providing ever-lasting confidence in themselves and unending pride in their accomplishments via performing with the group.
Doris achieved the dream of writing her own cookbook “B’s Best: A Harvest of Wyoming Country Recipes” which was published in 1995. She spent her retirement years enjoying watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up and worked on her hand-made cards. If you were close to Doris at all you probably received one of them from her.
Doris married Allan Leroy Black in 1957, and they remained married until Allan passed away in July of 2024 (that’s 67 years of marriage). She is survived by her three children, Peggy (Dan) Candelaria, Penny Boyles and Monte (Christy) Black. Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, Kyle and Andrea Tuma, Tristan and Addie, Justine Tuma, Jared and Katie Tuma, Ryan and Cayden, Mackenzie Francois, and Laynian Black.
Doris did not desire any formal services. Any remembrances or cards may be sent to Bustard and Jacoby Funeral Home, 600 CY Ave., Casper, WY. 82601. Extended family will be notified of scattering of ashes at a later date.
