Dorothy Hovis

April 14, 1921 — December 20, 2016

Dorothy Maxine Hovis of Casper, Wyoming, passed away on December 20, 2016 after suffering a long illness. She was born on April 14, 1921 to Albert and Myrtle Benson in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Dorothy lived in Cheyenne, and graduated from Cheyenne High School where she met the "love of her life", Bill Hovis. They were married in 1940 and welcomed a daughter four years later in 1944. They remained in Cheyenne until 1962. At that time, Bill's job with the Internal Revenue Service took them to Worland, Wyoming. One year later in 1963, Bill was transferred once again, and they made their final move to Casper. Dorothy (or "Dode", as everyone called her) was a dedicated walker in her neighborhood and at Sunrise Shopping Center. This became a daily routine for many years, and everyone on her route was very familiar with her. If Dode had a trademark, it would be her vintage yellow Volkswagon "bug". Many knew her as "the little lady who drove a yellow bug"! Her husband gave it to her as a birthday present in 1973. She loved that car, and it remained pristine until her last day. Dode loved to talk with everyone, and she socialized with people of all walks of life. She has been referred to as a "ray of sunshine". Because of that, she will be missed by many! Survivors include her daughter, Danae (Art) Genzler; grandson, Cory (Jo) Yingling; granddaughter, Kim (Bryon) Harmon; great-grandsons, Cole Thompson and Taylor Yingling; great-granddaughter, Lexie (Brandon) Eggleston; great-great grandson, Evan Eggleston; brothers, Bob (Helen) Benson and John Benson; step-great-grandchildren, Thomas Suggs and Tiffany Laramende. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Willaim R. Hovis; her father and mother, Albert and Myrtle Benson; a brother, Jim Benson; and grandson, Scott Gale Yingling. As Dorothy requested, there will be no services. Her family will have a private "celebration of life" with dinner and special memories. She will be missed. But once again, she has been reunited with her beloved husband. Reason to celebrate!
