They married Valentine's Day, 1990 and began a life together as a blended family with three young boys. Doug taught his boys to ski at a young age and the family enjoyed many family ski, camping and fishing trips.

Doug's passion for skiing continued throughout his life. He joined Casper Mountain Ski Patrol in 1983, became a member of the Northern Division and was appointed his National number with the National Ski Patrol. He served the Ski Patrol for 23 years, earning two Purple Merit Stars for saving a life.
