Elvin Dee Bixler "Bix" died on June 22, 2010 at Life Care Center of Casper following a long illness. He was born November 9, 1921 in Encampment, Wyoming to Charles E. and Pearl Dee (Bowers) Bixler. He graduated in 1940 from Encampment High School. He married Viola Nickell on July 5, 1944 in Harrison, Nebraska. On September 25, 1944 he joined the US Army and was deployed to Central Europe. He received the American Theater Service Medal- Good Conduct Medal- European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, and Victory Medal. He was discharged on April 27, 1946. He worked at several ranches in Encampment and with the REA of Carbon County. In 1957 he went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation in Casper, Wyoming. In 1966 he transferred to Gering, Nebraska. He retired from the Department of Energy in Gering, Nebraska. He is survived by 2 daughters: Sharon Burns of Glenrock and Stacy Stevenson of Hesperia, California. Two grandchildren: Todd Burns of Cheyenne, and Dee Ann Lippincott of Casper. 5 great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Molly & L.J. Burns of Cheyenne and Taylor and Jack Lippincott of Casper. One brother, Charles Bixler of Laramie. One sister, Betty Merrill of Encampment and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola. An infant son, John. Son Charles "Chuck" in 1969, his parents and an infant sister, Zoe. Memorial Services are being planned for later this summer. The family requests memorials to Grand Encampment Museum.
