Etta Mae Guthrie Moore January 20, 1917 - May 16, 2012 Etta passed away at Sheppard of the Valley nursing home in Casper at age 95. She was born on a homestead outside Douglas, WY to Jessie Meiners and Earl Guthrie during a typical Wyoming blizzard while her father had gone into town for the doctor. They moved to Casper soon after she was born when her father found work at the new Standard Oil Refinery. Etta worked with her sister and two brothers on the family dairy, raising bum lambs and tending to the cows. She liked to tell stories of herding the milk cows across the Platte River for grazing. She went to Lincoln grade school in North Casper and graduated in the class of 1935 from Natrona County High School. After she graduated from high school, she married her husband Merton Moore at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on October 10, 1935. They lived in North Casper for a time, and shortly after they were married, moved to Cody to work on a dude ranch. Mert wrangled dudes and took care of the stock and Etta cleaned cabins and attended to the guests. In the spring of 1937 they moved back to Casper and their first son Jack was born in May. Mert got a job at Nolan Chevrolet and they bought a small house at 716 Kirk Ave before the war. When the war came and the Air Base opened, Mert volunteered for service. In 1942 he went off to the 8th air force in England. During the war, Etta volunteered at the hospital as a nurse's aid, and later worked as the secretary at the Casper Dairy owned by her father. After the war Mert and Etta moved to the end of 7th street where their second son Dan was born. They had many horses and rode frequently as members of the Round Up Club. Etta worked as a secretary for an Oil Lease broker and later as the regional office manager for Tuboscope. She was insistent that her sons attend college and worked to send them through school. She was a loving and supportive mother to her sons and their families. As a longtime member of the TOPS organization, she attended many conventions and helped other members with their weight issues. She delivered meals-on-wheels for many years and joined the Meadowlarks singing group that performed for nursing homes and senior's events. While her husband Mert was at Sheppard of the Valley, she was a daily visitor and ran the Bingo game. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years in 2001, her sister Thelma Nadine Nicola in 1935, brothers William M. Guthrie 1980, and John Henry Guthrie 1988. Also preceding her were her grandson, Michael Moore 2005 and daughter-in-law Judie Moore 2011. She touched many lives with her beautiful smile and kind ways. She was cheerful, generous and forgiving. She liked people and people liked her. In addition to her generous and loving spirit, she had a great sense of humor and loyalty to her family was paramount in her life. She is survived by her two sons, Jack Moore of Concord, CA and Dan Moore of Brentwood, CA, three grand children Jennifer, Adam and Josh, three great grand children Darryl, Nathan, and Jacob and a great-great grand daughter Jade. Friends are invited to join Etta's family in celebration of her life Sunday June 17, 2012 at 1:00 at St Marks Episcopal Church. Following the service a brief reception will be held at the St. Marks parish hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
