Gary Lane Sherman, Dad and PaPa, was born to Paul and Verna (Gragg) Sherman on Dec. 7, 1943, in Longmont, CO. He passed from this life on Dec. 26, 2016, in Casper, WY, after a long battle with cancer, at the age of 73. Gary spent his early years in Thedford, NE, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Jan Blauvelt. They were married Dec. 8, 1961, a day after he turned 18, because Jan wouldn't marry Gary until he was a legal adult. The couple entered ministry soon after their marriage. They pastored churches throughout their lives in NE, MO, IA, CO, KS and WY. Gary was known for his ability to find humor in any situation and always had a joke for everyone. He was described by many, as a man who loved deeply. Every person Gary came in contact with, from the server at the diner, to the church board member, to the next door neighbor, to the kids down the street, knew he cared for them and were grateful to call him ‘friend'. Gary left a tremendous legacy throughout his lifetime in the hearts of community, church and family members. He touched them with a helping hand, lent a listening ear, and ministered with a compassionate spirit. Gary enjoyed Gaither music videos, Estes Park, CO, old movies, and Lorna Doone cookies. He loved to ‘eat out', especially breakfast. Gary was passionate about Israel and the study of Hebrew history. He enjoyed laughing with his kids and grandkids and cherished time spent together. Gary is survived by his wife, Jan, of Casper, WY, his daughter, Coleen (Alan) Schaberg, Casper, WY, his son Kirk (Kristin) Sherman, Rawlins, WY, son Bryan (Chrissy) Sherman, Independence, MO, his mother, Verna Sherman, sister, Judy (Gene) Thomlinson, brother, Ron (Debbie) Sherman, all of Springfield MO, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was loved by them all and will be greatly missed in this life. Gary was proceeded in death by his beloved father, Paul (PaPa) Sherman.
