James Hughes DeWitt II

December 19, 1946 — December 24, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James “Jay” DeWitt.  Jay, as he was known by everyone, met with his maker on December 24, 2023.  Jay had turned 77 on his recent birthday.

Jay was born on December 19, 1946 to James H. DeWitt and Anne Trello DeWitt in Casper, Wyoming.  Jay was the second born of five children.  His siblings included Margaret (Peggy), Kathy, Jeanne and Phillip (Guy).

Jay attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School where he made several lifelong friendships and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1965.  After graduating from high school, he joined the Wyoming National Guard and also joined his father in the bottled water company, Hillcrest Water, which his father owned.

In 1969 he married Susan Lamb in Casper.  They later divorced.  Together they had three sons, Jason, Matthew, and Gregory.  Life with his three sons was interesting, exciting and at times hilarious.  Jay had a knack of being able to fix just about anything that was broken.  Although he didn’t always do the “fixing” according to the book, he always got the job done!  “Where there’s Jay, there’s a way,” was the saying.

Jay is survived by: his sons Jason and wife Anna, Gregory and significant other Stacey Rogers; his sister, Jeanne; brother, Guy; grandchildren, Taylor, Noah, Breanna, and Ansley; great grandchildren. Arlo and Opal.  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews; Susan, his ex-wife; his companion, Donna, and many friends.

Jay is predeceased by his son, Matthew; his parents; sisters, Margaret Martin and Kathy Baker; brother-in-law, George Baker; and his companion for life, Pepper, his forever faithful pup.  In place of flowers please make contributions to the Humane Society of Casper or your favorite animal shelter.
