James R. Magee

October 30, 1936 — January 7, 2026

Casper

James R. Magee passed away on January 7, 2026, in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by his family. James was born on October 30, 1936, in Newcastle, WY, to James Williams and Virginia Thoeming Williams. At the age of ten, he moved to Casper, WY, where he later attended Natrona County High School, graduating in 1954. He continued his education at Casper College, graduating in 1956.

Following college, James enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956. He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division and was honorably discharged in 1959. Upon returning to civilian life, he worked in the uranium fields as a roughneck mechanic. He was later employed at the Dave Johnston Power Plant, where he dedicated 36 years of service.

James’s life changed forever because of a twist of fate. His future wife, Alison, had left New Zealand in 1958 with a heart set on traveling the world. During her journey, she happened to break down in Lusk, Wyoming—a moment of misfortune that led to a lifetime of happiness. It was shortly after, at the 114 Club, where she met James. From that chance meeting, James and Alison began a beautiful love story, eventually making their permanent home in Glenrock, WY. Their devoted union spanned decades and produced four children, ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, creating a legacy of love that remains his greatest achievement.

James was a devout Christian who set an example of how to live as an honorable man. He was deeply respected and admired by all who knew him. He had a deep passion for hunting, farming, and trapshooting, but he cherished his family most of all. The world has less light without him, and James will never be forgotten by the many lives he touched.

James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alison Magee; his parents James Williams and Virginia Thoeming Magee and Blake Magee; and his son-in-law, Gerry Miller.

James is survived by his children and their families:

● Daughter Cathy Emmert and her husband, Dean; granddaughter, Adrian, and great-grandchildren, Michaiah, Areanna, and Elias; and granddaughter, Ashley, and great-grandchildren, Madalyn and Avarey.

● Daughter Kristy Miller, the memory of her late husband, Gerry Miller, and Shawn Wilson; grandson, Brandon and his wife, Alicia, and great-granddaughter, Ali.

● Daughter Heather Hansen and her husband, Marty; grandson, Logan and his fiancée, Shaelea Spargur, and great-grandson, Stetson; and grandchildren, Brock, Alexis, and Ryker.

● Son James Magee and his wife, Jennifer; granddaughter Cameron and her fiancée, Tyler Juma; and grandchildren Brody and Madalynn.

He is also survived by his siblings: Bonnie Walkinshaw (Bill), Robert Magee (Beverly), Shirlee Vee Hall (Larry), and Joanne (Don) Swedenborg.

A service is to be held at a later date.
