James Robert Zeigafuse

July 13, 1947 — July 11, 2025

Casper

James Robert Zeigafuse, a cherished father, devoted husband, and esteemed friend, departed this life on July 11, 2025, in Casper, Wyoming, just shy of his 78th birthday. Born on July 13, 1947, in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, Jim was not merely a man of remarkable achievements, but a genuine soul whose easygoing nature and warm-hearted spirit left an indelible mark upon all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Proudly serving in the United States Army from 1964 to 1967, Jim emerged with an honorable discharge that not only shaped his character but also paved the way for a long and illustrious career as a truck driver. For 27 years, he dedicated himself to Trans Am Trucking, mastering the vast network of highways and byways across this great land. His uncanny ability to identify his location by mile marker numbers was a testament to his profound commitment to his profession. With skillful hands at the wheel and a jovial disposition, he triumphantly reached the extraordinary milestone of two million miles driven, a profound accomplishment forged through consistent safe driving practices and an unwavering dedication to his craft. His military efforts were recognized with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal, adding yet another layer of esteem to his storied legacy.

Jim relished the simple pleasures of life; he delighted in attending NASCAR races and spent many idyllic days fishing, pursuits that brought him an abundance of joy and inspirational stories that echoed long after the festivities had ended. An avid car enthusiast, he thrived on tinkering with vehicles, and his laughter would resonate amongst his trucking buddies, as he shared his passion for both the road and the friends he made along the way. His gentle, humorous demeanor painted a vibrant tapestry of camaraderie and heartfelt connection with all those he called friends. Jim possessed an innate kindness that compelled him to ensure that the needs of his loved ones were met, further cementing the bonds of friendship he nurtured throughout his life.

Though he was not a cat person, he could not resist the charms of BoBo, the big orange fluffy cat who thoroughly captivated his heart, reminding us all that love has a delightful way of surprising us.

He leaves behind a radiant legacy, celebrated and mourned by his beloved wife, Debra Zeigafuse; children Dawn (Fred) Herder of Stroudsburg, PA, Holly (Chuck) Enz of Dallas, PA, Elizabeth Sparks of Evans, CO, Sheena (Randy) Harmon of Evans, CO, Sarah (Rick) Martin of Jefferson City, MO, Floyd (Laura) Bennett of Casper, WY, Daniel Bennett of Casper, WY, and Paul Bennett of Casper, WY; brothers Larry and Tommy Zeigafuse of Easton, PA; as well as his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In a life marked by kindness, humor, and steadfast dedication, Jim will forever be remembered by all whose lives he touched. He was predeceased by parents Marion and George Zeigafuse, sisters Lorna, Rosetta, Anna, and Roberta, and one grandchild.

A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held on August 14, 2025, at Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, Wyoming, a fitting tribute to a man who served his country and cherished his family with unparalleled devotion. Jim's spirit will continue to inspire, as the stories of his life echo through the hearts of those who loved him dearly.
