Kay M. Burwell

Kay Marie Burwell, 83, of Casper, WY went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 30, 2025. She passed away at Banner Wyoming Medical Center surrounded by her family and close friends.

Kay was born in Casper, WY on October 3, 1941, to Oscar H. and Ruth Syverson Boyles. Kay grew up at Bessemer Oil Camp, west of Casper. She attended a one-room schoolhouse, Poison Spider School, and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1959. While working for Pan American Oil Company, Kay attended Casper College, graduating with an associate’s degree in 1961.

She married Larry Burwell on July 1, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church. To this union, Kay was blessed with two children, Cheryl and Bradley. The couple owned and operated Service Cleaners and expanded to Casper Dry Cleaners in 1975, which Kay still owned and operated at the time of her passing.

Kay was active in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Casper Lioness Club, The Red Hat Society, and was a charter member of Mount Hope Lutheran Church. Kay loved spending time with her family and extended family.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl and son, Brad, both of Casper; grandchildren, Kristofer Olvera of Colorado and Rhiana and Jasel Valenzuela of Casper; nephews, Michael Hand of Cheyenne, Troy Burwell of Lander and Roddy Burwell of Casper. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Rosemary Burwell; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Connie Hand, Carol Dunlap and Tom Boyles; and her husband, Larry Burwell.

Graveside inurnment will be held at Memorial Gardens at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Hope Lutheran Church, 2300 Hickory Street, with a luncheon to follow.
