Larry Nickell

Larry Lee Nickell age 72 passed away peacefully with his family at his side May 1, 2010 in Casper, WY. Larry was born April 3, 1938 in Jennings, Kansas to Loren and Alice Nickell. Growing up in Northern Kansas and Southern Nebraska, Larry was the oldest of seven with six younger sisters. Early on Larry was a good athlete playing football, basketball and track. He enjoyed horses and tried his hat at riding bucking horses in rodeos. He rode in an equine precision performance at Madison Square Garden. Larry graduated from Lexington High School in Lexington, NE in 1956. He attended Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney, NE and later enlisted in the National Guard. He moved to Casper, WY while in the National Guard to manage the Singer Sewing Company store. While in Casper he met the love of his life Eileen Webb. They were married on October 28, 1967 for 42 years. Larry and Eileen had two lovely daughters Michelle Walsh and Shannon Barnes who both live in Casper. Larry was blessed with five grandchildren who he truly enjoyed. Larry was a devoted grandfather who cherished going to the grandkids sporting and school events. Larry, a good business man, worked in the insurance industry until he purchased Westridge Carpet in 1975 with his wife Eileen. They retired from the carpet business in 2002. It is a well known fact was that Larry was a talented sales person. Through the years while his kids were growing up, Larry and his family enjoyed spending time outdoors including going to Alcova Lake, where Larry loved to water ski. The other love of his life was playing golf at the Paradise Valley Country Club where they have been members since 1982. Both he and Eileen enjoyed the many friendships they have made at the club. He was an avid Denver Broncos and Wyoming Cowboys football fan. He was preceded in death by his parents. Larry is survived by his wife Eileen; his daughters Michelle Walsh her three children Amber, Jordan and Aubree; Shannon Barnes her husband Michael and their children Braden and Kaitlin all of Casper, WY. He also left behind his trustee companion Fancy. He will be missed greatly by his extensive family and many friends. Larry lived life to the fullest. A celebration of his life will be held at Bustards Funeral Home Tuesday May 4, 2010 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made at First Interstate Bank, or donations to the Central Wyoming Hospice 319 South Wilson Street Casper, WY 82601.
