Lenore Palmer

Lenore N. Palmer, 90, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Life Care Center in Casper, WY. A celebration of Lenore's life will take place at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Bustard's Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place. Lenore was born March 27, 1920 in Denton, Montana to Ben C. and Eleanor A. Reichmuth. Lenore traveled extensively throughout her life and fondly reminisced on her visits. During her childhood she lived in Montana, Florida and Texas. In 1938, Lenore graduated from Hot Springs County High School in Thermopolis, WY. She attended Bernau College in Georgia for one year, before graduating from the University of Wyoming in 1941. Lenore is recognized as the first woman to receive a Pilot's License from the University. In 1942. While at the University of Washington for graduate studies, she met Perry K. McAllister. They wed in 1943 and he was later killed in action during World War II. After the war, Lenore met and married Robert P. Palmer in Billings, MT in 1946. Lenore and Bob celebrated over fifty years of marriage prior to his passing. Lenore worked for many years as a caseworker for the Wyoming Department of Social Services in Powell, Cody and Cheyenne. Lenore and Bob continued to travel and lived for many years in West Germany, California and Washington, before returning to Wyoming in 2007. Lenore easily established instant and enduring friendships everywhere she lived. She was an accomplished bridge player, enjoyed her daily crossword puzzle and was an avid reader. She loved a good joke and always had a cartoon to share. Lenore was most proud of her children, grandchildren, great grand children and their accomplishments. Her greatest joy was time spent with family and friends. Lenore N. Palmer is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and her sister, Rosalie (Robert) Kraft. She is survived by her children, Perrie Kay (Ed) Avery of Cheyenne, Leslie Ann (Doug) Franzen of Bothell, WA, Pennie Sue Smith of Iva, SC, Lucinda Lenore (Jim) Armstrong of Glenrock, and Robert P. (Carol) Palmer III of Gillette, sister-in-law, Marguerite B. (Jack) Mayes of Laurel, MT, brother-in-law, Robert (Rosalie) Kraft of Aptos, CA, eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Memorials in Lenore N. Palmer's name may be made to the charity of your choice or for the establishment of the Lenore N. & Robert P. Palmer Social Work Scholarship Endowment at the University of Wyoming. Lenore N. Palmer is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and her sister, Rosalie (Robert) Kraft.
