Gail went to be with Jesus on May 19, 2025 in Casper, Wyoming.
She was born July 26, 1941, in Glencoe, Alabama, to Ina Bell Bowen Parker of Alexandria, Alabama and Stanford Shelby Parker of Mobile, Alabama. While in college at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama, she met the love of her life, John Evan Thomas, III of Birmingham, Alabama. They were married August 23, 1962 in Glencoe, Alabama and enjoyed 62 years together.
Gail grew up in Glencoe, Alabama and went to church regularly at First Baptist Church of Glencoe. She devoted her life to Christ at an early age and dedicated her life to serving Him. She graduated from Glencoe High School in 1959. She then earned her Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics with a minor in Science from Jacksonville State University in 1963. Upon their graduation, she and John moved to New Orleans where she taught Home Economics at the junior high school level, while John attended the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Gail and John had fond memories of their time in New Orleans.
Over many years, she and John served congregations of Southern Baptist Churches in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. In 1984, they were called to serve Boyd Avenue Baptist Church in Casper, Wyoming as Minister of Music. John also served as the Music Education Director of the Wyoming Southern Baptist Convention. This job allowed him and Gail to travel and get familiar with the Southern Baptist churches across the state of Wyoming. At Boyd Avenue, Gail taught Sunday school, as well as, lead the preschool choir. John and Gail made many lasting friendships over the years. Even in her later years, Gail remained a faithful member and prayer warrior of the church.
John and Gail enjoyed the great outdoors and all that Wyoming had to offer. They shared fond memories of hiking on Casper Mountain, Muddy Mountain, and backpacking in the Bighorn Mountain Range. They enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, traveling, and having picnics with their family. They were often seen walking at Edness K. Wilkins State Park.
Gail loved the Lord and her desire was for all to know the joy of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Over the years, she served alongside John at numerous church events. She would cook Southern casseroles and dishes that were loved by all. For many years, they would open up their home to the church choir members for gatherings following their choir cantatas. It always featured her delicious Italian cream cake!
Surviving Gail is her husband, John; her brother Larry Parker of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Jeff Thomas (Margaret); daughter, Susan Foery (Jason); and two grandchildren, Martin Thomas Foery and Shelby Rose Foery, all of Casper, Wyoming.
She was preceded by death by her parents and grandparents.
