Lula J. Walthall

Lula Jonnie Walthall “Grams” - age 90 passed away peacefully with hospice on Friday, June 19, 2026 at Meadow Wind Assisted Living. Lula was born and raised by her foster parents in Sheridan, WY by John Riley Reynolds & Lula Reynolds on or about March 6 or 22, 1936.

Lula was a graduate of Sheridan High School Class of 1954 and later worked at and retired from Mountain Bell turn US West (aka “The Phone Company”). She was a quiet person, but lived a very special life. She went through flight attendant training at Northwest Schools and was later hired by United Airlines. In addition, she was also a part of the Civil Air Patrol and the Order of the Eastern Star. Lula’s hobbies included taking care of small injured animals and her personal cats, piano, ceramics, fiber arts like cross stitching, sewing, crocheting and doll making, reading mystery/spy novels and watching her favorite TV shows and movies. She always had a story from her childhood to share and always ensured that everyone around her was well taken care of. Lula helped her husband “Sonny” run his service station “Sonny’s Conoco” in Glenrock, WY. After Sonny passed away, she was a single mother of three in 1977 and raised her children to the best of her ability.

Lula was preceded in death by her husband Peter James “Sonny” Walthall and her parents John & Lula Reynolds.

Her survivors include her three children: Donald, Jewell and Hope and her grandchildren Richard “Richie” & Bonnie from Jewel and Chaz & Beau from Hope along with her great grandchildren Gabrielle & Ezra from Bonnie.

From her daughter Jewel: “She was the best mom a child could ask for. She entertained us with her humor, movies and playing the piano. She taught us to mind our manners, respect others and to be kind to others. I will miss you Mom…”

From her son Donald: “God Bless You Mom.”

From her daughter Hope: “You were my first heartbeat. Forever remembered, never forgotten.”

From her grandson Chaz: “Grams was a true light in my life and managed to teach me a lot even before grade school started. From her fun words like ‘jitney’ for a car to always being delighted to see me, she will always remain a huge part of my life. Additionally, I feel that I was in part led to my career choices because of her: I was a flight attendant for United Airlines and I worked for the city of Casper answering 911 and non-emergency calls. I am honored to call her my grandmother and will hold on to those memories forever.”

From her grandson Beau: "If you stay young at heart you'll never grow old" Vroom noises with hot wheels, to chocolate chip granola bars, to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Be responsible and accountable, but never forget to stay young at heart. Thank you for being one amazing person, and a lovely delightful Grandmother. I love you Gramz
