Lynn Arthur Bell, 81, of Casper, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at home on December 6th, 2025, with his daughter, son and dog by his side, after a brave, private cancer battle.
Lynn was born on August 5th, 1944 in Brighton, Colorado to Charles and Lauris (Reed) Bell. He was the 2nd of three sons. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1962. He attended Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado and Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1967. He did basic training at Lacklan AFB in Texas for 23 months, where he was assigned to a Tech School as a nuclear weapons tech. He continued training at Lowry AFB in Denver, CO, where he went into weapons training. While there, he received orders to Sembach Germany and spent the biggest part of 3 years there until they closed it down. He then had to extend his enlistment for two months to get an assignment in Reminy, Italy for a year. He transferred to K.I. Sawyer AFB in Marquette, MI. While there, in 1971, he met Susie Gray at Little Shag Lake in Gwynn, Michigan. They were married at K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base. Lynn was immediately transferred to Lawry Air Force Base in Colorado, where they made their home and where their daughter Nichole was born in 1975. At Lowry he had the opportunity to go back to tech school as an instructor for a year. He worked in airborne weapons and missles, and as an instructor until his discharge with the rank of Staff Sargent in 1975. Lynn was deeply proud of his military service. Prior to his discharge he also attended night school at University of Colorado, UNC in Greeley and received a Bachelor's in Marketing and a Master's in Business Administration, with a Teaching Certificate as a "back up". After graduation and discharge from the Air Force, however, he accepted a job teaching at Natrona County High School in Casper, WY, and the rest is history! In 1976 they moved to Casper, where their son Nathan was born in 1980, completing their family and where they made their permanent home.
Lynn loved teaching and went above and beyond to provide the best education he could for his students. He started his career teaching DECA and Business Math, and later transitioned to teaching Biology. He built lasting bonds with many of his students that lasted the rest of his life. He retired in 2009, but remained Mr. Bell to many until the very end. During his years of teaching he also worked at Gibson's and Coast to Coast in Sporting Goods and made many lasting friendships there as well.
Lynn was a lifelong outdoorsman. He passions were fishing, especially at Miracle Mile and the North Platte River, hunting, in particular at the Van Patten Ranch south of Waltman and in the Shirley Mountains, birding, rodeo, his very favorites being the Central Wyoming Fair and Rodeo and the CNFR, for both of which he held long time season passes, and gardening to name a few. He had fond memories of being a Boy Scout as a young man and of all his experiences in the great outdoors. He was also a collector, most notably a collector of knives, his favorite being Boy Scout knives. He and Sue spent many years auctioning at John Japp Auctions, and antiquing, and they were long time members of the Casper Antique and Collectors Club. More than all of this, though, his truest passion and priority was always his family. He was supportive and kind. He was strong, generous, wise, and a truly good human being. While he leaves us an amazing legacy, we're not quite sure what we'll do without him.
Lynn is survived by his daughter Nichole (Broc) Johnson of Twin Falls, Idaho, son Nathan Bell of Casper, brother Jeff (Mary) Bell of Brighton, Colorado, and his grandson Atticus Johnson, of Twin Falls, Idaho, who was the light of his life and of whom he was endlessly proud, his sweet dog Bella, Joel (Kate) Simonson, Bethany Simonson, and numerous nieces, nephews and very dear friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Susan Bell, his parents, Charles and Lauris Bell, his brother and sister-in-law Lowell and Peg Bell, and many ancestors before them.
A service for Lynn will happen in the summer, and details will be announced soon. The family would like to thank Rocky Mountain Oncology, Central Wyoming Hospice, along with their Veteran-to-Veteran program, VFW post 9439, and Bustard and Jacoby funeral home, in particular Aaron Bowman, for their care and assistance. We would especially like to thank our friends and family for their support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his honor can be made to Natrona County High School Boosters, or a charity of your choice.
