In Loving Memory

With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to our beloved Marilyn J. Loraas who passed away on September 28th at the age of 82. To all of us—family and friends, Marilyn was more than just a presence in our lives; she was a source of warmth, love, and unwavering generosity.

Born on December 7th, 1942, in Three Forks, MT, to Tom and Jane Lile, she was the third oldest child. Along with her siblings, Gene, Fredrick, Patricia and Linda, Marilyn grew up in Eustace, Montana for many years. She married the love of her life, Alden Loraas on January 2nd, 1965, and joined their families together. She had many jobs throughout her life as a cook, cafeteria lady, waitress, and more, which all pale in comparison to her legacy as an amazing woman who would do anything for the people she loved.

Marilyn carried a spirit of kindness and generosity wherever she went. Whether it was a listening ear in tough times or a joyful companion in moments of celebration, she made every gathering brighter and every challenge lighter simply by being there.

Marilyn leaves behind children Jack (Karel) Loraas of Casper, Charlie (Renee) Loraas of Casper, Kevin (Tina) Loraas of Auburn, AL, Cynthia (Bill) Thompson of Dallas, GA, Shelley (Tim) Callahan of Waleska, GA, and Kelley McMains of Rapid City, SD. She will also be dearly missed by her beloved grandchildren AJ Loraas, Erika Johnson, Jessica (Jason) Callahan-Bridges, Jeremy (Sherrill) Scogin, Jana (Jessie) Pitcock, Heather (Jacob) Sands, Clay Loraas, Meaghan Loraas, and Brett Loraas along with all of her equally beloved great-grandchildren and countless friends and loved ones who were lucky enough to share in her journey. The love she gave us will echo in our hearts forever. She now joins her husband Al Loraas, her parents Tom and Jane Lile, half-brother Gene Lile, brother Frederick Lile, grandson Shawn Callahan, great grandson Hayden Scogin, best friends Sherryl and Tommy Scott, Vern and Joanne Peterson and Jeanne McAllister whose memories we also hold dear.

Marilyn had a passion for sewing, cooking, baking, gardening, and caring for the people around her, and brought a loving touch to everything she did, baking a million cookies and breads for everyone during the holidays, growing anything with her extremely green thumb or always celebrating family events. We will always remember her loving warmth, boundless compassion, and the way she could find joy in the small, everyday moments.

We invite everyone who knew and loved Marilyn to join us for a celebration of her extraordinary life on Saturday October 4, 2025, at 2 p.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. We’ll share stories, laughter, and tears as we honor all that she meant to us.

We will forever treasure her memory and the love that she so freely gave. Rest easy, our dear Marilyn - you will always be with us as our precious angel.
