M. Kay Sandfort

June 3, 1948 — October 22, 2023

Life long Casper residence M. "Kay" Sandfort passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023.

Kay was born on June 3, 1948 to William "Bill" Keith Gerdom and Marilyn Walker.

Kay attended Casper public schools and graduated from Natrona County High School with the class of 1966.

Kay met Werner "Huey" Sandfort at Alocva Lake in July 1966 and they were married on April 15, 1967 at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, while Huey was on leave from the United States Army. After their honeymoon to Jackson Hole, they left for Fort Leavenworth where Huey was stationed. After seven months in Kansas Huey reported to Korea and Kay moved to Denver to stay with her mother.

In September of 1970 Huey and Kay moved back to Casper, where she worked for the Clerk of District Court. In 1972 they bought their home on Spruce where Huey still resides. In February of 1974 they adopted their first child, Aubrey, and Kay became a stay at home mom. In 1979 they adopted their second child, Stephanie.

Kay went back into the workforce as a playground aide for Park Elementary. Kay had a passion for children. Before there was Coats for Kids and other agencies, Kay would go to KMart and pick up coats, boots, gloves and hats for the children most in need. Kay also worked for Northern Gas, was a ranch hand for Ed Stuckenoff and the B.B. Brooks Ranch and then went back to the Clerk of District Court retiring in 2022.

Kay loved collecting antiques, riding snowmachines and 4 wheelers, was very artistic, an avid horseman, gardener, hunter (shooting her first moose in 1973). She took several cruises, had fun adventures with friend Nikki, fished in the Northwest Territory and went to Hawaii. She and Huey restored a 1923 Shulte Sheep wagon. She was very proud to be part of the Garden Walk winning first place and welcomed everyone to stop by and enjoy. Kay enjoyed spending time at the family cabin on Casper Mountain.
In April of 1999 Kay welcomed her first grandson. Three more grandsons would be welcomed before her granddaughter. She doted on all her grandchildren making holidays especially magical for them.
