Mary Theresa Arneson, 56, of Casper, WY, died at her home on 10/17/23.
Mary A, as she liked to refer to herself, and was fondly referred to by her friends, was born in Ancon, (Canal Zone) Panama on the Howard Airforce Base on December 12th, 1966, to Captain David Arneson and Irene (O’Horo) Arneson. Mary was placed in foster care when she was less than three weeks old, and was Mary was taken in by Lester and Betty Haugen. As an infant Mary made the journey from the hospital she was born in at Ancon, to a hospital in Duluth Minnesota, and finally to the home of Lester and Betty. Mary had four foster siblings including three brothers (Michael, John, James) and a sister (Dawn). Mary was the 13th and last foster child that was taken in by the Haugen’s. Mary attended the AJ Woods School BOSES in Gillette for three years, as well as in Casper.
On March 1, 1988 Mary began receiving services from NOWCAP Services, where she would spend the next 35 years of her life, and build a network of friends that became family and was by her side until the very end.
Mary was a very caring person, and looked out for those that she considered her friend. She was the first to let someone know if they were not being treated the way Mary felt they should be and would be their voice when they needed it. Mary’s smile and laugh were infectious, and she liked to tease others, and could be quite mischievous. Mary was a hard worker who took great pride in her work. Throughout her time at NOWCAP Services Mary worked on several janitorial crews in the community. Mary was always up and ready for work, and did not miss a day, rain or shine, sick or not. Mary was one to stay until the job was finished, and had a good eye for detail.
Mary is survived by her NOWCAP Services family members and friends, where her memory will live on in the care that is provided to others.
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.”
John 14:1-3 NLT
