Paul “Scott” Edwards, 69, of Casper Wyoming went home to the lord the morning of September 5, 2024. He testified that he had a vision of an angel in the darkened, pre-dawn street moments before he passed in his wife’s arms.
An avid outdoorsman, he found God in nature; waterfalls, in particular, I remember fondly bringing him joy and awe. Everything from hunting wild game, large and small, to golfing with his friends, to catching a bigger fish than you ever have (according to him).
As I sit here with pen to physical paper, eyes bloodshot and random doodles in the margins, I’m at a loss as to how one is supposed to describe a man who led such a full life; and the indelible mark he made on so many in just a few paragraphs.
How do you describe the way in which somebody taught you how to throw a baseball? How do you describe the the patience and grace he had with me in the empty Central Wyoming Fairgrounds parking lot while I was learning the difference between the brake and gas pedals when I was 15?
His presence was so large; he made room for absolutely everybody, and did so in love.
Scott was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma to his adoring parents, Stan and Carolyn Edwards (Dow) on May 10, 1955. He attended Kelly Walsh High School in Casper, Wyoming, graduating in 1973.
He went on to Colorado State University where he obtained his Bachelors Degree in Business Management. Upon graduating, he went in pursuit of his interests in oil and gas land management, forming WLR as owner and CEO until his passing.
Not just the working man, Scott and his loving wife, Carla, relished their adventure time; from the peaks of the Tetons to the saguaro in Arizona. Whenever he took her to dinner, and was asked where they would like to be seated: “In the happy section,” he’d always reply, while just absolutely beaming – a true testament to his unwavering joy and the ever-present dad-jokes. I’ve never seen anybody look at someone the way they did one another; a private memory I will forever cherish.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his devoted wife, Carla; and daughter, Halley of Casper; his son, Matthew (Stefanie); and his treasured twin grandsons, Evan and Wes of Dover, New Hampshire; as well as numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents; and his younger brother, Russell, of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
A private cremation will take place where later he will be reunited with his beloved parents in Oklahoma, as well as finding eternal peace in the beauty of Wyoming’s Miracle Mile and antelope camp.
A Celebration of Life for friends will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made in Scott’s memory to Platte Rivers Veteran Fly Fishing PO Box 2414 Cheyenne, WY 82003 or Hunting with Heroes Wyoming PO Box 51736 Casper, WY 82605.
We’ll forever love you, Dad; thank you for teaching me how to be a man. Until we can fish again -Halley
