Randy Butler was born on December 7, 1947, in Houston, Texas. He passed away on January 26th, 2026 at the age of 78 surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.
Randy graduated from NCHS in 1966 and began college at the University of Wyoming before being drafted during the Vietnam War. He served honorably in the United States Army as an Army Ranger, serving for five years in both Germany and Vietnam. Within a year of his honorable discharge, Randy continued his lifelong commitment to service by completing a two-year mission in Munich, Germany for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
On January 3, 1976, Randy married the love of his life, Rita, beginning a marriage that spanned 50 years and was the center of his world. Together they raised eight children. After the birth of their first five children, Randy returned to the University of Wyoming and earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He worked as a fluids engineer for Baker Hughes until the oil bust, after which he did whatever was necessary to provide for his growing family, eventually working for FedEx for 18 years.
Following his retirement from FedEx, Randy continued serving by working for the City of Casper for 10 years. He began in dispatch and later served as a Community Service Officer, handling responsibilities ranging from writing parking tickets to managing the entire police fleet.
Even in retirement, Randy’s dedication to service never slowed. He and Rita served a two-year mission for the LDS church in Little Rock, Arkansas, creating cherished memories while serving their church. Upon returning to Casper, they served another two-year mission in the addiction recovery program. Afterward, Randy devoted himself fully to his family, church, and community, including dedicated volunteer work with Meals on Wheels.
Randy was known for being kind, funny, faithful, loyal, dependable, and selfless. He lived his life quietly serving others and loving deeply.
Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Doris “Duffy” Anderson; his father, Roddy Butler; his stepfather, Percy Anderson; and his beloved daughter, Mandy Butler.
He is survived by his world and devoted wife, Rita Butler; his children: Shiela Butler; Christine and her husband Hank, and their son Xavier; Angela and her children McKenzie, Taylor, and Camden; Paula and Mandy’s children Connor and Crew; Dude and his wife Heather, and their children Mariah, Jace, Collin, and Charley; Melissa and her husband Clint, and their children Annabelle and Landon; Jake and his wife Marissa, and their children Dude and Michelle; and the baby of the family, Jessica and her husband Weston, and their children Blakely and Paige. He is also survived by his siblings: Robby and his wife Dorothy; Dude and his wife Karen; Glenda and her husband Eric; Jean and her husband Tom; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Randy will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his faithful service, gentle humor, and the love he poured into everyone blessed to know him.
There will be a time of visitation beginning at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM on Monday February 2, 2026 at Wolf Creek LDS Church, 3931 W 45th St, Casper WY 82604. Burial with Military Honors will immediately follow at Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery, 80 Veterans Dr, Evansville WY 82636.
