Robert “Bob” Eugene Cook (1928-2025)
Robert “Bob” Eugene Cook passed away peacefully, in the presence of family, on Monday, 2 June in Casper, Wyoming. Bob was 97 years old.
Bob was born on 23 April 1928 in Billings, Montana. Bob’s childhood was spent in multiple locations in Montana and California. Bob did farm work as early as he was able, and managed a gas station while in high school.
Bob served in the Army and had two tours in Japan (1946 and 1950). Bob and Jacqueline Bishop married in 1951.
Bob received his BS degree in Business from the University of Montana in 1953. In 1954, Bob started an 18-year career in marketing with Conoco. During the Conoco years, Bob and Jacquie lived in Billings, Livingston, and Lewistown, Montana. In 1972, Bob started his own business running a petroleum bulk plant in Casper, Wyoming. Bob eventually owned bulk plants and gas stations in Casper, Douglas, Worland, Lander, Riverton, and Cody. Bob was a pioneer in the transition from gas stations to convenience stores. Bob retired from the petroleum business in 1985.
Bob and Jacquie bought their home in Cooke City in 1984. Bob was a park ranger at Yellowstone Park for 25 years, and he considered those to be the best of his life. Bob helped fight the Yellowstone fires of 1988, and he participated in the reintroduction of wolves to the park.
This past April, Bob attended the Honor Flight event for veterans in the Rocky Mountain region. The group toured the WWII, Korean, and Vietnam War memorials in Washington DC. Bob was the oldest attendee, and the event was very meaningful to him.
Bob went out of his way to teach his descendants to save their money.
Bob is survived by his wife Jacquie, daughters Jane Perez (Lalo) and Kelly Hall (Wayne), and son Mart (Linda). Bob and Jacquie have four grandchildren: Kendra Terpening, Kylie Stewart, Polly Davidson, and Peggy Reina. Bob and Jacquie have seven great-grandchildren: Adori, Finn, Max, Colin, Delilah, Henry, and Phoebe. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristi.
Bob’s family will sponsor a Memorial/Celebration of Life on Sunday, 29 June, at 1:00, at the First Christian Church in Casper.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that anyone who would like to donate in Bob’s honor to please donate to the Camp Hope charity for children with Type 1 diabetes. Camp Hope sponsors an annual summer camp on Casper Mountain. Bob’s grandchild, Max Stewart, 14, participates with Camp Hope. Donations may be made via Camphopewy.com. Please add “Robert E Cook” in the tribute field.
