Bob served as a JCs (United States Junior Chamber) member in Worland, Wyoming. He was also board member for the Downtown Development Authority in Casper, Wyoming and a proud Cowboy Joe Club supporter.

He joined the United States Navy at the age of 19 and served from 1962 to 1966 in Company 62-467 commanded by H.R. Gildow, MMCM. He worked .R. Gildow as a journalist on the USS Saint Paul during The Vietnam War. He was aboard ship during the filming of In Harm’s Way with John Wayne and is featured briefly in the movie. During the filming, Bob was able to spend considerable time with the actor because his office was one of the only air-conditioned areas on the ship.

He attended the University of Wyoming on the GI bill after leaving the military. He then worked for The Daily News in Worland, Wyoming with his father-in-law Hugh Knoefel. After moving to Casper, Wyoming, he and Dawn purchased the Mode O Day store in downtown Casper. While Dawn ran the store, he worked as an Insurance Agent, as an inside salesman for Dyna Systems, and finally as an Insurance Adjuster, serving in the aftermath of hurricane Andrew.

Bob was a sportsman and adventurer. During his life he was an avid traveler, visiting over 50 countries with his wife Dawn. Their adventures began just one year after they were married with a four-month trip to Europe in a Volks Wagon Camper for $5 a day. He also loved the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming and camped and fished in his elder years. Additionally, he enjoyed scuba diving with his daughter Kyleen and son-in-law Carter as well as mountain biking and road biking with his wife Dawn.

Bob was an avid University of Wyoming fan and often traveled by himself to attend football and basketball games. He was very proud to share this love with his daughter Kyleen who is a graduate of the University, and his grandson Isaiah who will attend there next year as a freshman.

He was fun-loving and quick with a smile or a joke. He didn’t know a stranger and often started conversations with them wherever he went. He was polite and valued good manners. His family remembers travelling with him, going out to eat for birthday dinners, and spending Christmas mornings with him as he talked of hearing Santa on the roof.

Bob was proud of his family and his naval service. He was also proud of helping to build and design one of the first downtown lofts in Casper, Wyoming. He would often share about being blessed to see 5 of the 7 Wonders of the World, including The Great Wall of China, Petra in Jordan, the Colosseum in Italy, Chichen Itza in Mexico, and Christ The Redeemer In Brazil. He was deeply devoted to his Siamese cat named Thai, loved to golf and get Starbucks coffee, was an avid reader, especially of CJ Box. He loved eating good food and great desserts.

As a child, Bob had a great faith in the Lord, and this faith was restored to him in his last days.
