Royce Walter Brown, 83, of Casper, Wyoming, died on Monday, May 4, 2026 2:37 a.m. at Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions Home. Royce was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Pauline and Walter Brown on May 25, 1942. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1960. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Kearney State College. He was then accepted to the Philadelphia Divinity School, where he earned a Master of Divinity in 1967. He was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Church on June 20, 1967. Later that year, he was ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church on December 21, 1967.
Royce served churches in Nebraska, Kansas, and Wyoming for more than 37 years. In Nebraska, he served at the following churches: Calvary in Hyannis, St. Joseph in Mullen, All Saints in Eclipse-on-the-Dismal, St. Paul’s in Arapahoe, St. Matthew’s in Farnam, St. Paul’s in Ogallala, St. Michael’s in Imperial, and St. George’s in Oshkosh. In Kansas, he served at St. Andrew’s Church in Liberal. In Wyoming, he served at St. Mark’s in Casper and retired in 2004. In retirement, he continued serving several churches, including St. Luke’s Episcopal in Buffalo, Christ Episcopal in Glenrock, and Our Savior’s Lutheran in Casper. He also served as chaplain for Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions Home for a few years. His final active church work was for Prince of Peace Lutheran in Casper. Until his death Royce was an active member of the Order of Saint Luke.
Royce is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sandra Brown; his sons, Matthew Brown, Timothy Brown, and Stephen Brown; Matthew’s daughters, Samantha Brown and Michelle Brown-Prentice, and Michelle’s husband, Austin Prentice; and Stephen’s wife, Emily Brown, and their daughters, Madison Brown and Macy Brown.
Funeral service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Casper, WY on Monday May 25th, 2026 at 10:30 AM with Reverand Camie Dewey of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church officiating.
