Ruth Ellen Larson, age 88, of Casper, WY, born on April 19, 1933, in Scottsbluff, NE, died peacefully in her sleep on March 13, 2022 at Park Place Assisted Living Center in Casper, WY.
Ruth was the youngest of 9 children born to Albert and Susanna Petersen.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, teenaged Ruth, and her sister Thelma, helped patch cracks in the wood floors of the newly constructed church in Thermopolis, WY.
On Nov. 14, 1952, she married Leonard H. Larson of Thermopolis, in Billings, MT.
For the first 4 years of their marriage, the couple traveled the upper Midwest as Leonard worked constructing oil tanks for Chicago Bridge and Iron; afterward, the couple settled in Thermopolis, WY.
After 11 years of marriage and 6 children, the couple's divorce was finalized on Dec. 4, 1963.
Ruth and all 6 children moved to Casper, WY.
Ruth worked long, hard hours for 24 years as a waitress at the New Moon Cafe in Casper to support her family.
Her children were her life. She loved all of her children and she did the best that she could for them. Although she struggled financially throughout her life, she said that it was her children that were her fortune.
Ruth was preceded in death by her son Douglas; her parents; ex-husband Leonard; brother Peter Petersen; sisters, Stella Pettit, Grace Petersen, Marcella Rezac, Thelma Hager, Doris Faulhaber, and Pearl Lindsey.
She is survived by her sister Lois Ott of Schaumburg, IL; her children William ( Carol) of Evanston, WY, Steven of Lawrenceville, GA, Randall (Diane) of Manti, UT, Edward (Helen) of Tampa, FL, and Laura Hunsaker of Casper, WY; her grandchildren Eric (Carolyn Wisniewski) of Urbana, IL, Emily (Josh) Love, Kristal (Ross) Redfern of Denver, CO, Justin (Josie Koenig) of Casper, Cory of Manti, UT, Trenton of Sandy, UT, Sawyer of Casper, WY, Trevor of Casper, WY, Charity of Manti, UT, Patricia (Nick) Lovelace of Casper, Matthew Levitt of Casper, Christopher Levitt of Casper; and 14 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Bustard & Jacoby Funeral Home, 600 CY Ave. Casper, WY on Monday, March 21 at 10:00 AM
