Sharon Marie Mathis

September 24, 1942 — April 11, 2026

Sharon Marie was born on September 24, 1942, in Casper, Wyoming, to Millicent Opal (Zimmerman) and Walter William Morton. She was the seventh of eight children, raised in North Casper in a lively home that helped shape her strong and spirited nature. She graduated from Natrona County High School in 1960 and soon after married Robert Allen Koschene Sr. Together they welcomed two sons, Robert Allen Koschene Jr. and James Franklin Koschene. Later, she married the love of her life, James Leroy Mathis and they welcomed their youngest son, James Cory Mathis.

Sharon spent many years working for Dr. Brubaker, where she built not only a career but lifelong friendships that meant so much to her. She was fiercely competitive and full of life. She swam, played basketball and played and coached softball. However, her true love was golf. She was the Wyoming Womens Senior Champion. She also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards—always ready for a little competition and a lot of laughter. She was an avid water skier, even a trick skier, and made sure everyone around her gave it a try. In her world, learning to ski wasn’t optional—it was simply part of life. After retirement, she spent many years snowbirding to Arizona, playing golf and cards with friends. Alcova Lake held a special place in her heart, where she had spent many summers, with a place of her own and created countless cherished memories. She was a devoted member of Winter Memorial Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. In her later years, she reconnected deeply with her faith and recommitted her life to Christ, through believers baptism at Alcova Lake. She spent her later years with her significant other, Donald Niedermayer, sharing companionship and love.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; her first and second husbands; siblings Bill Morton, John Morton, Donna Marvel, Roseanne Rodgers and Maxine Campbell. Also, her grandson Kendall Koschene. She is survived by her siblings: Gene Morton, Jay Morton(Betty); Sons: Robert Koschene(Sherry), James Koschene(Dawn) and Cory Mathis (Kathy); Grandchildren: DJ Hess(Jessie), Jason Lake(Deb), Amanda Koschene, Jayme Flowers (Cristofer), Shannon Finley(Austin) and Ashlynn Mathis. Along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She loved with her whole heart—her family, her friends, and just about everyone she met. She never knew a stranger. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
