Obituary

Timothy Jack McCrary, born July 30, 1955, passed away on August 23, 2026. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, retired Methodist Pastor, and United States Army Vietnam-era Veteran.

Tim was a man who could best be described as stubborn, kind, loving, and strong-willed. He had a presence that people remembered, and many who knew him would joke that he looked remarkably like President Theodore Roosevelt.

Tim loved the simple things in life and had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, and spending time outside. He especially loved deer—not only hunting them, but simply watching them from a distance. He loved history and could spend hours enjoying the stories and lessons of the past. He also had a lifelong love of movies, particularly westerns, and one of his favorite pastimes was looking for mistakes and inconsistencies in movies.

He had a softer side that his children will never forget. Tim loved Charlie Brown and would sing Puff the Magic Dragon to his children, sometimes accompanying himself on the guitar. Those songs and memories will live on in the hearts of the children who heard him sing them.

Tim also had a wonderful sense of humor. One family story that will likely never be forgotten involves a sandwich he once made at his mother’s house. Tim grabbed what he thought was leftover meatloaf from his Mother’s refrigerator and made himself a sandwich. Sitting down to eat he asks, “Hmm this is good. What is it?” His Mother asnwered, “Beaner’s food.” Tim soon discovered that what he had so confidently put between his bread was actually dog food. It was the kind of story that became a family legend just like the story of who started the food fight.

Tim and his brother Pat shared a special relationship filled with brotherly teasing and good-natured competition. Family members often said that Pat looked like Tim, while Pat insisted that wasn’t true—Tim looked like him. The brothers also used to take turns making lunch for one another, each trying to find something strange enough to gross the other out. Even as adults, they never completely outgrew that tradition and continued to enjoy their unusual food choices.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Margie McCrary; his sisters, Judy, Jody, Nancy, and Linda; his brother, Mike; and his daughter, Sarah.

He leaves behind his brother, Pat; his daughters, Heather, Deborah, and Cindy; his son, Michael; his granddaughters, Trinity, Willow, Isabella, Edria, Venice, Sarah; his grandson, Daniel; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Tim’s family will remember him not only for the things he accomplished, but for the little things that made him who he was: his stubborn determination, his strong will, his kindness, his love for his family, his stories, his humor, his love of history and the outdoors, and the songs he sang to his children.

There was one thing Tim always wanted at his funeral. He loved Professor Slughorn from Harry Potter, particularly the scene following the death of Aragog, and he always joked that he wanted Professor Slughorn to say, “Farewell, Timothy.”

So, Tim, this is your farewell.

“Farewell, Timothy, whose long and faithful friendship those who knew you won’t forget! Though your body will decay, your spirit lingers on in the quiet. May your family and friends find solace for the loss they have sustained.”

May you rest peacefully, surrounded by the memories of everyone who loved you. You will be deeply missed, but the stories, laughter, songs, and memories you gave us will remain with us always.
