Walter Golumb

Walter “Jerry” Golumb July 29, 1938 – July 21, 2026

Walter Golumb, lovingly known to many as Jerry, passed away peacefully at home on July 21, 2026, just eight days shy of his 88th birthday. Born on July 29, 1938, in Oxford, Massachusetts, Walter was the youngest of seven children—and became an uncle the very day he entered the world. Growing up in such a large family shaped his lifelong warmth, humor, and ability to connect with anyone he met.

Walter proudly served in the United States Marine Corp as an Airman from 1956 to 1958, then enlisting in the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War as an Air Traffic Controller and Heavy Equipment Operator from 1961 to 1967. After returning from Vietnam, he continued that work at LAX, where he was known for his steady presence and sharp mind.

Walter married twice, to two wonderful women, Lee Edwards and Iris Anderson Smith, and from those marriages came his three children: Shannon, Jerry Lee, and Katina.

After moving to Wyoming, Walter—now widely known as Jerry—began a new chapter in the plumbing trade. He apprenticed with Devault and Morton in Casper before becoming the Natrona County Plumbing Inspector. His adventurous spirit later took him all the way to Antarctica, where he worked as a plumber at McMurdo Station. His stories from the South Pole were legendary months of daylight or darkness, unimaginable cold, and the surreal experience of truly being at the bottom of the world.

In retirement, Walter embraced life fully. He became a beloved social butterfly around Casper, known for his ever-present smirk and easy smile. He loved country dancing at the old Beacon Club on countless weekends and spent many quiet hours reading Louis L’Amour novels.

He is survived by his children, Jerry Lee Golumb, Katina Golumb, and Shannon Bailey all of Casper; his grandchildren Ellary Golumb, Kayden Pharr, Nick Bailey, and Jenna Bailey, and his great‑grandchildren Griffin Bailey, Tarryn Bailey, Grayden Bailey, and Taylyn Newton, all of Casper, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Walter faced cancer over the past year with remarkable strength, never allowing it to dim his spirit. He was a true fighter, a storyteller, a dancer, a friend, and a man who left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He will be deeply missed—and lovingly remembered—for his humor, his grit, and the smile that never seemed to fade.

Services will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery, where Walter will receive full military honors in recognition of his dedicated service to his country.
