Wanda Franke

Wanda Lou Franke, 78 passed away April 14, 2010 with family and friends at her side. Wanda was born September 30, 1931 in Marshal, Missouri. She graduated from high school in Higginsville, Missouri in 1949. Directly out of high school she attended nursing school at St. Lukes Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1952 . While in nursing school she married J. H.(Jay) Franke, December 7, 1951, before Jay shipped off to Europe with the US Army. During the mid 1950's Wanda and Jay lived overseas in Denmark and the southern U.S. while Jay was working for Carter Oil (now Exxon). They moved to Casper in 1959. She worked many years as an OR nurse at Wyoming Medical Center. She also worked for Dr. Mahnke until Jay's job took them to Houston, Texas in 1981. Upon retirement in 1993 they returned to Casper. Wanda returned to work as an OR nurse at Wyoming Medical Center, until retiring in 1996. Wanda enjoyed the mountains, camping and spending time with family and friends. She was a long time member of Mount Hope Lutheran Church where her faith in God flourished and guided her. Wanda is survived by two sons; Jeff from Washington D.C., Kevin (wife Evie) from Casper; 7 grandchildren; Brian from Florida, Jason, Rachel and Kristen from Casper, Matthew, Michael and Megan from California, 1 great-grandchild Sarah from Casper, one sister and one brother, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, one brother and one sister. Memorial services will be held Friday April 16th, at Mount Hope Lutheran Church, with burial at Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery.
