Jamie Phillips

December 24, 1985 — December 31, 2019

In late December 2019 we lost our cherished Jamie.

Jamie LaVerne Phillips was born Dec. 24, 1985 in Casper, WY to Kay Whiting and Glenn Phillips. Jamie attended school in Casper through her sophomore year. She enjoyed school sports, was a member of Job’s Daughters International, and loved to hang out and go to the mall with her friends. She also liked to listen to music and enjoyed arts and crafts. She developed an early interest in fashion and makeup that she carried with her until her death.

In 2002 she moved to Paducah, KY, to live with her dad. Jamie graduated from Heath High School in May 2004. While attending college, Jamie worked at Superior Care Nursing home as a CNA and later an LPN, and Western Baptist Hospital as an LPN. She graduated from West Kentucky Community Technical College in 2010, at which time she started her career as a Registered Nurse.

Jamie decided to move back to her hometown of Casper, WY in 2011 where she was able to continue her nursing career. She brought with her the love of her life, Gracie May, a teacup yorkie. From 2011-2016 Jamie touched many lives as a compassionate and caring nurse in the Casper and Douglas communities.

Jamie took a position as a traveling nurse in December of 2016, which took her to Denver, CO. She loved living in the Denver area, and was able to make it her home by accepting a position at Saint Joseph Hospital where she was employed as an ER nurse at the time of her death. Jamie made an impact on the lives of both patients and co-workers, even inspiring some to attend nursing school.

Jamie received many awards and recognition throughout her nursing career. Most recently she was recognized for providing outstanding clinical care for a stroke patient and for a cardiac patient. Jamie was an empathetic nurse, who treated every patient with care and compassion. Nursing was her true passion, and we are thankful she could share that with so many.
Jamie loved to travel and visited many countries, including Antigua & Barbuda and Costa Rica. She most recently had the trip of her life in December celebrating her 34th birthday in Mexico. Jamie also enjoyed many trips throughout the US with friends and family.

Jamie will be forever missed by her Mother Kay, Casper, WY; Father Glenn (Cherie), St. Petersburg, FL; siblings Risa, Bree (Michael), Cody, Kristina (Anthony), and Cory; various aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, Jamie’s family will be establishing a memorial in her honor at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver. Donations can be sent to Kay Whiting, 1943 S Poplar St, Casper, WY 82601.
