During her teen years, she met a young soldier from Lander, Wyoming, Gordon Roe, who was stationed at Fort Myer, Virginia. They met on a blind date, arranged by her cousin. She also loved to cook and entertain in her home. She was active in her church, which was wherever Gordon happened to be pastoring. They pastored many churches throughout Wyoming; Wright, Dubois, Cheyenne, and Casper.
