She was raised in Arlington, Virginia where she attended school, and graduated from Washington and Lee High School in 1957. During her teen years, she met a young soldier from Lander, Wyoming, Gordon Roe, who was stationed at Fort Myer, Virginia. They met on a blind date, arranged by her cousin. She always said she knew from that first date, that Gordon was the man she would marry. They were married on June 14, 1958 at First Baptist Church in Clarendon, Virginia. June and Gordon were married for 58 years, before he passed in 2016. They had three children; Sherri, Doug, and Kim. The family lived in Arlington and Fairfax, Virginia until 1971, when they moved to Casper, Wyoming.
June worked off and on as a dental hygienist and secretary, but mostly stayed home to be a wife and mother. She enjoyed many crafts including sewing, knitting, tole painting, and ceramics. She also loved to cook and entertain in her home. She was active in her church, which was wherever Gordon happened to be pastoring. They pastored many churches throughout Wyoming; Wright, Dubois, Cheyenne, and Casper.
